"Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood" Book Review

I have to admit, I often feel overwhelmed by motherhood - especially now that I have three small children.  Preschool dramatics, terrible twos, and newborns are a dangerous combination.  I often feel like I'm failing terribly.  That's why I love any good Bible studies on motherhood.  So I was very happy to get to review "Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood," by Melissa B. Kruger.

This book is an 11 week devotional for mothers in all season of life and here's what I like about it:
1.) It's not for "certain types of moms." - This devotional isn't just for young moms, or moms of toddlers, or moms with school-age kids, or moms who are about empty nesters.  Its for all moms, in every season of motherhood.
2.) Each week has 5 days of devotionals.  - I like this because, let's face it, sometimes we don't get around to our devotions.  I'm not saying that its right or spiritual, but sometimes it happens.  Things get out of control and, sadly its often our quiet time that's the first to go.  Because this book as 5-day weeks you can make up a missed day on Saturday if you need to and you don't feel the need to double up and rush through.
3.) The Bible passages are included in the book.  Although I love to actually use my Bible to read passages when I'm doing a devotional, sometimes its not practical - like when I'm sitting in the car waiting for my husband, or sitting in the chair feeding the baby, etc.  Its great that this devotional has everything  you need - including the Bible passages.
4.) Days 1 through 4 are Bible studies, while Day 5 is more of a devotional.  Mrs. Kruger gives you 4 days of Bible reading, answering questions about what you read, etc.  Then on Day 5, she usually gives you a personal story from her own life to help bring that week's Bible study to life.  In fact, the only thing that like about this book is the fact that their weren't more personal stories of Mrs. Kruger's.  I really enjoyed those.

As Mrs. Kruger says in the introduction to her book -
"If we yearn for children who take their needs to God in prayer, it is important that we increasingly become women of prayer. If we want thankful children, we begin by cultivating our own thankfulness. If we want peaceful, hopeful, kind and compassionate children, it is essential that we grow in these graces ourselves. In the beauty of God's design, He is in the process of parenting us as we parent our children."

I received a copy of this book, free of charge, from Blogging for Books, in exchange for my honest review.
