Saboteur: The Lost Mines and No Thanks Review

I reviewed games for Amigo Games before and I've always loved them.  (You can check out my past Amigo Games reviews HERE and HERE.) So I was thrilled to try a couple more! The wonderful folks at Amigo were kind enough to send me two fantastic games to try!

First up is Saboteur: The Lost Mines -

This is the newest game in Amigo's popular Saboteur line!  The original Saboteur game was a card game where each person is a miner and everyone is working together to "dig" a path to the gold.  However, someone is secretly a saboteur who is trying to get the gold for themselves.  This new game plays off those same ideas, but now you're on teams on miners.  The only problem is, you're never sure whether you can trust your teammates! Some are loyal, but some are plying only for themselves.  And some are secretly playing for the OTHER TEAM!

I love that this game plays 3-9 players!  Its hard to find a board game that will play that many players, so this game is definitely special!

The second game I received is No Thanks -

No Thanks is a simple card game that plays 3-7 people. In the game, there are 33 cards (valued 3 to 35) and 55 small chips. The object of the game is to get the lowest score. Each time a card is turned over, you decide whether to take it or place one of your chips on top of it and pass by saying, "No Thanks!" You can pass as many times as you have chips to play.  Whoever decides to take the card also gets all the chips on top of it. These chips are good because they give you more opportunities to pass up high value cards.  They also subtract from your score at the end of the game, so they can help you get a lower score!

I like that this game plays up to 7 people!  Its great for a quick family game! I also love that its a pretty simple concept, so you don't have to be an advanced gamer to play.  There's an element of luck involved - meaning even the youngest can win!  But there's also a level of strategy - in deciding whether to pass up high value cards or take them and all the chips on top of them.  When you're adding up your score, only the lowest card in a number sequence counts in your score.  Meaning if you have a 12, 13, 14, and 15, only the 12 counts when you're adding up your score.  This adds a level of strategy (taking higher cards with chips on them because they won't count against you). Its also great practice for younger kids learning to put numbers into the proper sequence!

What I love:

1.) The quality components! - I've mentioned it in my previous Amigo Games reviews and I'll say it again: Amigo games makes quality games!  The boxes are sturdy.  The components are sturdy.  All of their games just seem really well made!

2.) They play larger groups! - Sometimes its hard to find fun games that play more than 4 people, so I love that both of these games have higher player counts!

3.) They make you think!  - Both games make you think a bit (but they aren't overly complicated).  I love that! I was particularly surprised by No Thanks! The concept is so simple, but there's definitely some strategy involved!

I received these games, free of charge, from Amigo Games in exchange for my honest review.
