The Grand Museum of Art

I'm constantly searching for great gameschooling game (games that have educational value).  I'm a firm believer that ALL games contain some educational value - whether its the math in scoring or simply the learning to take turns - but I love a great themed educational game!  And art history themed games can be difficult to find. So I was thrilled to find The Grand Museum of Art game, by Today Is Art Day!

The Grand Museum of Art is a beautiful board game for 2-4 players ages 12+.  It takes approximately 1 hour to play and you'll learn a lot about art!

So here's what I love:

1.) The theme! - As I mentioned, its hard to find an art history-themed game!

2.) The playing pieces! - The game pieces are copies of actual sculptures!  Rodin's Thinker, Michelangelo's David, the Venus de Milo by Alexandros of Antioch, and Winged Victory of Samothrace. (By the way, the learning began BEFORE play started!  I immediately recognized the first 3 sculptures, but I was less familiar with Winged Victory, so I had to look that one up!)  Be careful with the sculptures!  They are NOT made of plastic!  They appear to be made of clay - which gives them a wonderfully authentic feel!

3.) The artwork cards! - These cards are a fantastic way to expose your kids to some of the world's most important works of art! Each card has a picture of the work, its name, and the name of the artist

4.) The trivia booklet! - One of the part of the game is answering trivia questions about the artwork and/or the artist!  (This doesn't happen on every turn, so don't worry if trivia isn't your thing.) All the questions are multiple choice, so you have a 1 in 3 chance of getting the correct answer.  And these questions give you a great opportunity to learn more about art!

I received this game, free of charge from Today Is Art Day, in exchange for my honest review.
