The fantastic folks at Luma Imports have sent me three games for review and we've been having lots of fun reviewing them as a family! Here's what we got and what we thought:
1.) Pikoko - a trick-taking card game for 3-5 players
Our thoughts: THIS GAME IS BEAUTIFUL! The cards are beautiful! The chips are beautiful. And the card holders that are included are also beautiful! Most card games don't come with holders, so that was a definite bonus! And the holders are study plastic, not cardboard (like I thought they were) so won't be ruined in a couple of plays! My entire family has recently become obsessed with trick-taking games, so this is a fantastic addition! But this game is unique from any of the other trick-taking games we own because YOU CAN'T SEE YOUR HAND! That's right! Everyone else can see your cards, but you can't! This adds some extra difficulty but also some extra fun to the game!
2.) Treasures of Cibola - a fast (15 min.) card game for 2-4 players
Our thoughts: This one is definitely quick, but I like that! Its a game you could play as a quick filler, a quick game before bed, or in several rounds. You're not only playing cards, but you're placing rocks to cover points on the board, which changes how much every card is worth at the end of the game, so there's definitely some fun strategy in this little game! My only negative would be that it only plays up to 4, so all 5 family members can't play at once. But its a quick one, so that's ok! We can play when someone's busy doing something else or we can switch out players each round!
3.) Gravity Superstar - a fun board game for 2-6 players
Our thoughts: All of these games are great, but this one was our ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! Everyone just loves it! In Gravity Superstar, each player has to use gravity to collect the stars on the board. You play a movement card, do that movement, and then "fall" until your feet hit a platform. You collect any stars that you fall through on the way. You can use a movement card to turn a different direction and fall a different direction. If you go through or land on another player, you send them back home and steal one of their stars (or replay tokens). Its lots of fun, easy to learn, but still has quite a bit of strategy in which cards you use and where you go, etc. My kids instantly fell in love with those little stars! But they also loved the fact that this was a game they understood quickly but still had to think strategically in order to win. I love watching my kids - even my youngest - make strategic decisions on their own! Its fantastic!
I received these games, free of charge from Luma Imports, In exchange for my honest review.
