5er Finden Game Review

Well, its a new year!  Let's all hope its a better year than the last two!  But one thing you know you can count on in this new year is more game reviews from me!  So I'm thrilled to start out with one of my favorite companies - Haba USA!  The wonderful folks at Haba USA were kind enough to send me a fantastic little game called 5er Finden. Keep reading and find out what I think!

5er Finden (1-4 players, for ages 7+, plays in approximately 20 minutes) is a simple game - 5 dice, 5 shapes, 5 rounds.  In each round, roll all 5 dice, then search your board for the shapes on the dice arranged in any of the 5 shapes provided on the tiles. Earn points based on the shapes you find.  The person with the most points after 5 rounds wins!

What I like:

1.) Its small!  - This game is bigger than a card game, but much smaller than a board game.  That makes it easy to store and very portable!

2.) It's simple to learn and play! - We went from opening the box to playing in about 5 minutes.  I love games like that! Bigger, more involved games are fun, but it's harder to get those out and started with 3 kids.  A game with simple instructions is great!

3.) It's a speed game... but it's not! - I'm not a huge fan of speed games.  I'm just not a fan of the pressure. But this game is different!  The speed aspect only comes into play after one player decides they're done searching.  Then they turn the sand timer over and everyone else has until the sand runs out to keep searching.  For some reason, this seems less "stressful" to me.

4.) There are several ways to play! - You can play 5 rounds.  Or you can play just one quick round.  You can play with 2, 3, or 4 people.  Or you can even play solo! You can play on the easier side or the harder side of the board.  So many choices!

What I don't like:

1.) Honestly, the one thing I don't like is that it only plays 4 people.  You can purchase a second copy and probably play fine with more, but I wish it played 5 or 6 right out of the box.

All in all, this is a fun little game that I can play with my kids, but they can also play on their own.  It can even be played solo, which my oldest has done and really enjoyed. I love its portability and the ease with which I can teach it to new players. Its definitely a great brain exercise as well!

I received this game, free of charge from Haba USA, in exchange for my honest review.
