Ecosystem: Coral Reef Game Review

As a board game reviewer, I often get contacted about reviewing games for various companies.  But sometimes I see a game that just grabs my attention and I contact the company myself and ask if I can review it. That's what happened with Ecosystem: Coral Reef, by Genius Games. I saw this game and immediately knew I had to review it for all my readers!

I'd previously reviewed Periodic: A Game of the Elements, also by Genius Games, so I knew that Genius Games makes beautiful, quality, educational games. Their entire mission seems to be to make science fun and accessible for everybody - and I really love that!

So let's take a look at Coral Reef!

Coral Reef is the 2nd in a series of Ecosystem card games. In the game, you're building your own ecosystem using organisms found in the Great Barrier Reef, like clownfish, sharks, krill, and coral.

Things I love about the game:

1.) The illustrations! - As I mentioned earlier, this game caught my attention the first time I saw the box cover.  It's gorgeous!  And the playing cards are equally beautiful!

2.) The player count! - The game plays up to 6 people - which is wonderful enough for our family of 5! But There are also rules for a 2-player game and even a solo game! That gives this game lots and lots of playability!

3.) The educational inspiration! - This game is perfect for a discussion of ecosystems, food webs, sea life, and coral reefs in particular!

4.) The instruction booklet! - The rules are clearly and concisely laid out, making it easy to read the rules and jump into the game pretty quickly.

5.) The score pad! - Each type of organism scores in a different way. Thankfully, Genius Games has included a score pad that makes adding up your score at the end of the game a cinch!

6.) The size! - The game is small, making it very portable!

If you're looking for a beautiful, fun, and educational card game, definitely check Ecosystem: Coral Reef out!

I received this game, free of charge from Genius Games, in exchange for my honest review.
