A few months ago I read "The Good Wife's Guide," by Darlene Schact and really enjoyed it. So when I saw that she had written a new book called "Messy Beautiful Love," I jumped at the chance to review it!
Darlene's books are wonderful, easy reads with lots of info on how to be a godly wife. In fact, as often happens when I read a book by a Christian author, I had developed an image in my mind of Darlene as a Christian GIANT. You know, a godly woman who is the perfect example of biblical submission, spiritual godliness, virtue and modesty. Do you ever do that? I often wondered if I could live up to her example or her teachings.
Then I started "Messy Beautiful Love" and Darlene began the book by confessing that she had nearly ruined her marriage by having an affair. I was blown away. But this book is nothing short of wonderful. She uses her affair as an example of how God can use even the most "messed up" of people and how His grace and mercy are sufficient to change our hearts and make us new.
The book doesn't delve deep into the circumstances and facts of her sin - and it shouldn't. She simply uses it to illustrate what she's learned about God's grace, forgiveness, and what we need to do to protect our marriages. With chapters on subjects like: submission, conflict, communication, and contentment (among others), she gives great, Biblical advice for marriage. "Messy Beautiful Love" is definitely a good read!!!
I received a copy of this book, free of charge, from BookLook Bloggers in exchange for my honest review.
