Fabulous Roll & Write Games from Stronghold Games/Indie Boards and Cards

As I mentioned in a previous post, the wonderful folks at Stronghold Games and Indie Boards and Cards were kind enough to send me several games to review!  I've split the games up in an effort to keep the reviews manageable and readable.  So in this review, I'd like to introduce you to some of their amazing roll and write games!

I'm a HUGE fan of roll and writes!  They're fun. They usually take 15-30 minutes. And they're smaller in size, so they're very portable.  My family loves roll & writes as well, so we were more than happy to check out these!

1.) Encore! (1-6 players)

We quickly read the rules and jumped right in!  It was really easy to learn how to play.  And its really pretty!  I love that the entire family can play together, since it plays up to 6 people.  As a family of 5, we're always looking for games that accommodate more than 4 players.

Its also simple enough that younger kids can play, yet it has enough strategy to make it fun for adults.  My hubby has already said, "We need to play that Encore game again." You got it, babe!

2.) Dizzle (1-4 players)

My youngest requested to play this game.  It wasn't originally in the pile of games to be played first. But how could I deny her.  So we played.  And she loved it!  She had an absolute ball! And she played pretty independently.  (I gave her a couple of suggestions, but not much.) She even asked to play it again the next day! I love that it was easy enough for her to play, yet still fun for the adults!

I really thought this game would be a breeze.  It didn't look like it would be that strategic.  But there was actually quite a bit of strategy involved.

3.) Brikks (1-4 players)

Hubby and I played this game together.  Its got some very strong Tetris-like vibes, and I'm here for it!  I absolutely LOVED Tetris as a kid, so this game gives me all the nostalgic vibes!  Plus, it doesn't have to be plugged in or need batteries!  Haha!  And also, DICE!!!  I. LOVE. Roll & Writes! It was tons of fun!  But its definitely challenging!

Its similar to Stronghold Games' other Tetris-like game called Second Chance!  That one is tons of fun as well, but instead of a Roll & Write, its a Flip and Write (cards instead of Dice).  They are similar in that they both have Tetris vibes, but they are definitely different games!  I'm glad we have both!  Second Chance plays up to 6 players, so we can play as a whole family.  Brikks plays 2-4.  Second Chance is also less "involved," in terms of scoring, placement of shapes, etc. My 6 year old can easily handle Second Chance.  She might need a little help with Brikks.  But Brikks is definitely TONS of fun!  And I think that kids 8+ can definitely play it!  Its also tons of fun as just a two player game!

4.) Divvy Dice (1-4 players)

Divvy Dice caught my eye immediately because of the cover! Its so pretty and fun!  And as soon as I opened it up, my hubby said, "Is that a pink die?  You don't see that often."  I never thought about it, but he's right!  Most games that use different colored dice have a red one, not a pink one.

Oddly, I feel this game had some similarities with Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig.  I say "oddly" because they are completely different games.  Between Two Castles is a semi-cooperative tile laying game where you're creating castles with the person on your left and the person on your right.  Divvy Dice is a dice game that is not cooperative in any way.  But the scoring mechanisms are very similar.  The scoring has more to do with which colors/types of cards you choose and how you place them in a 3x3 grid.  I found it to be the most challenging of the 4 roll & writes in this review, but also possibly the most fun!

5.) Bravo! (1-6 players)

Bravo is the follow up to the popular Encore game (the first game on this list). Just like Encore, Bravo can play up to 6 players!  This makes this family of 5 very happy! If you're a fan of Encore - as I am - then you'll like Bravo!  Its similar in game play, but with some added new twists - like and extra die and bombs!

I received these games, free of charge from Stronghold Games, in exchange for my honest review.
