No Thank You, Evil Game Review

I'd like to start this particular review by saying that I have ZERO experience with RPGs (Roll PLayer Games) - unless you consider watching the guys on the Big Bang Theory play Dungeons and Dragons.  Haha!  For that reason, this particular game was a little intimidating to me.  But it looked like so much fun that I had to give it a try.  Thankfully, the creators of No Thank You, Evil did such a FABULOUS JOB on the instructions, that it was easy to dive in!

Here's a little background for you.  No Thank You, Evil is a beginner's roll player game.  So if you're an avid fan of RPGs and want to introduce them to your kids, this is the game for you!  But if you're like me and know NOTHING about RPGs, but you're looking for a great game to get your kids' creative juices flowing and enjoy a wild adventure with your family, this game is for you as well!

In No Thank You, Evil, one person (usually an adult or older sibling) will be the "Guide."  The guide will lead the other players through the adventure.  I've never done anything like this before.  But thankfully the instructions are very clear, give lots of suggestions and scenarios, and even include some beginners adventures!

Each player in the game gets to create their own character!  Once again, the instructions are easy to follow and very helpful!  What I specifically love is that they have broken it up into levels.  So you can choose the level you'd like to start your kid(s) one.  I also love that the character creation is based on finding a noun, an adjective, and a verb.  (Example: "I'm a fast ninja who loves pizza.) This allows you to use this exercise as a great grammar exercise as well!

We played the game one evening after I'd read all the appropriate info from the instruction booklet.  Originally, I'd just planned for us to create our characters.  We did the middle level to begin with, so the characters would each be a noun and an adjective.  After you create a character, you also create a Companion (sidekick). Once they were done with that, I had them each draw their character and companion.  This was tons of fun and all I had planned for that day.  but the kids had SO MUCH FUN creating these characters that they were absolutely BEGGINING to play the game!  So, after dinner, we helped Dad create a character and a companion and then we all jumped into the first adventure!  I was pretty nervous being a first-time guide.  (Especially since I had not yet read the entire first adventure, since I wasn't planning on running it that night!)  I felt like I did a mediocre job the first time.  I was nervous.  Haha!  But my kids seemed to think it was FABULOUS - even with my first-time guide skills!   They BEGGED to play again!  They absolutely loved getting to go on an adventure, getting to be a different character, and getting to create make believe!  And I absolutely loved watching them use problem solving skills and teamwork in order to win!

I received this game, free of charge from Monty Cook Games, in exchange for my honest review.
