There are a few things I'm a sucker for in a game:
1.) a wildlife theme
2.) fun dice
3.) well-illustrated cards
4.) cute animal meeples
That's why I'm THRILLED to review My Lil Everdell, by Starling Games! The wonderful folks at Tabletop Tycoon were kind enough to send me a copy and I am beyond excited! This game fits all four of the previously mentioned game qualities that I love, so let's take a look!
My Lil Everdell is the kids/beginner version of the outrageously popular tabletop game Everdell. Everdell is a hand management game that's a medium weight complexity. For those who are new to the board game community, this means it’s a bit more complicated than the average game. It may take a little longer to learn and also a little longer to play. (Everdell plays in 40-80 minutes.)
My Lil Everdell is simpler to learn, simpler to play, and quicker (It plays in 30-60 minutes.), but it keeps the charm of the original. But what I love about this version is that it's not simply a "kiddie" version of the game. It's also fun for adults. In fact, it would be a great way to introduce a new gamer to Everdell!
The components are absolutely adorable. There are butterflies, foxes, lizards, and mice meeples, berries, twigs, and resin. There are even adorable cardboard crates for the supplies!
The cards and the board are adorably illustrated and really help to immerse you into this sweet world of adorable critters.
And the instruction book is clear, simple, and not excessively long. There's nothing worse than opening a new game and finding the instructions to be hard to understand or hard to navigate. Thankfully, My Lil Everdell has a rulebook that is easy to understand and easy to follow.
If you want to try Everdell, but you're not sure about the complexity, or if you are a fan of Everdell and have kids or friends that you'd like to introduce to the game slowly, My Lil Everdell may be the game for you!
I received this game, free of charge from Tabletop Tycoon, in exchange for my honest review.
