First up is Letter Jam -
This is such a fun game! Part cooperative game, part competition, this one is really unique! Like many word games, you're trying to make a word with the letter cards you are given. The challenge: you can't see what letters you have! That's right! You can see everyone else's cards, but you can't see your own! WHAT!?! That's insane! But it works! And its fun! The game can be played with 2-6 players, but I feel like it would work best with 4-6 players because you are given clues to your hidden letter using the the other player's letters to help you decipher your letter.
I love that the game is customizable! You can decide how many letters you'd like in your secret words. An average game would have 5 letter words, but you could make it 3 letter words if you're playing with kids! You can also decide whether you want the game to be completely cooperative or whether you'd like to use the scoring to see who wins!
I also love the components! The setup cards and clue tokens are lovely and colorful. The guessing sheets are also colorful and fun. The numbered tokens are sturdy and fun! CGE has also included a set of pencils AND a little pencil sharpener to make things easier! I love that!
Lastly, CGE has developed an app that will pick the words for you so that no one has to pick the words! This makes the game a little more "fair" and easier for younger players.
Next up is Trapwords -
This is another fun clue-giving game! Except this time you're giving clues to your team members to try and help them figure out what word you have. Only problem? The other team has looked at your word already and written down some "trapwords" that you aren't allowed to use in your clues!
I love that this is not only a word/card game, but they've added the board game element with the room tiles, monsters, and even curse cards that add an extra element of difficulty!
Once again, the components are well-made, creative, and fun! Again, they've included 2 pencils and a little pencil sharpener!
And lastly Pictomania -
This is a fun game of words and drawing! Each person is assigned a word (from a set of 21 words) to draw and the other players have to figure out which word they're drawing. The hard part: a lot of the words are very similar (like "pen," "pencil," and "chalk"). And the added challenge - you get more points for being quick to finish your drawing and guess others! So be diligent, but don't dawdle!
This one is a lot of fun in that it adds a lot of different elements in (guessing words, drawing pictures, and working quickly). Its also customizable. With the kids, we only used 1 card (instead of 3) so that there were only 7 words to choose from instead of 21. It was still challenging to guess what people were drawing, since all the words are similar. But it was easier for the younger kids to find and remember their words. We also focused less on speed. As we get more accustomed to the game, we'll add back in elements like the speed challenge.
The components again are pretty well made. The tray for the 3 cards is kind of thin plastic, so I don't know if it will last super long. But we can easily use the plastic card holders from Letter Jam instead. In fact, I kind of wish they'd used some of those instead. But everything else seems durable. And once again they've added in several pencils and a little pencil sharpener! The pencils are even color coded for each player (they match their colored scoring tokens)!
These games will be great for gameschooling! Letter Jam works great for getting your kids thinking about spelling and word creation! And all three games are great problem solving/ deduction practice!
