Ecologies Card Game Review

One of my favorite things about Gameschooling is how it takes subjects that can seem difficult and really make them easy to grasp. Digging into a game and using information you learned about a subject to solve a problem in the game really helps you delve deeper into what you're studying!  And that's what I love about Ecologies!

Ecologies is a card game where you build and maintain food webs in 7 different biomes!  The game contains 108 cards (77 different organisms, 7 different biomes, 5 biotic factors, and 5 abiotic factors) and can be played by 1 to 6 players.  The game was created by a biology instructor, and I really appreciate its educational value!  So here's what I love:

1.) The game is BEAUTIFUL! - This shouldn't be overlooked.  An appealing game will get played more - at least in my house!  So the fact that these cards are colorful and beautifully illustrated is fantastic!

2.) The game can be used in discussions of several different science lessons! - Whether you're discussing biomes, food chains and food webs, biotic and abiotic factors, and/or conservation and environmental responsibility, this game and these cards are a great educational aid!

3.) The cards are color-coded! - Each biome and what it contains are the same color!  This makes it easier for younger kids - or kids just beginning to learn about ecology - to jump right in and play!

4.) The organism cards are very informative. - Each card tells you the name of the organism, whether its a producer, consumer or a decomposer, what it eats (including sunlight for producers), and what eats it.

5.) It can be scaled to different ages. - There's an expanded rulebook available for download with instructions for playing with younger children.

Final thoughts: I love all the knowledge involved in these cards.  Kids can get a basic idea of which animals eat which other animals, what a food chain and a food web are, what producers, consumers, and decomposers are, and much more.  And the color and beautiful illustrations make it very appealing.  But at the same time, its not "childish," so older kids won't feel like its a kids' game.

I received this game, free of charge from the creator, in exchange for my honest review.
