Black Orchestra – A Cooperative Game of Resistance and Intrigue

Black Orchestra – A Cooperative Game of Resistance and Intrigue

The year is 1936. Hitler's grip on Germany is tightening, and a group of men and women are beginning to work behind the scenes to oppose his regime. Their mission is dangerous, their resources are limited, and the Gestapo is always watching.

In Black Orchestra, players take on the roles of real historical figures who were part of the German resistance against Hitler. Working together, you'll travel across Europe, gather supplies, develop your plans, and look for the right opportunity to assassinate Hitler. But you'll need to be careful. Every move carries risk, and one suspicious action could put the entire conspiracy in jeopardy.

Based on real historical events and people, Black Orchestra is a cooperative strategy game that puts players in the middle of a tense and dangerous chapter of World War II history.

Gameschooling Connections:

Black Orchestra offers an opportunity to explore some challenging historical and strategic concepts:

  • World War II history: The game incorporates real historical figures, events, and locations connected to the German resistance.

  • Historical research: Players can learn more about the conspirators, their backgrounds, and the actual assassination attempts against Hitler.

  • Strategic thinking: Players must plan their actions, evaluate risks, and decide when to pursue their objectives.

  • Probability: Dice rolls, suspicion levels, and military support create opportunities to think about risk and probability.

  • Cooperation and communication: Success depends on coordinating plans, sharing resources, and making decisions as a team.

  • Cause and consequence: Players experience how individual choices can affect the entire group and the success of a larger mission.

Because the game deals with Nazi Germany, political resistance, imprisonment, and assassination, it's best suited to older players who are ready to engage with its serious historical subject matter. It can also provide a starting point for conversations about resistance, courage, and the choices people faced under an oppressive regime.

Black Orchestra was a name used by the Gestapo for the resistance network; it wasn't the conspirators' own official organization name. The group was not a single, formally organized club, either. The game brings together real people and events from a broader resistance movement and turns them into a cooperative game scenario.

Black Orchestra is a distinctive cooperative game that combines strategy, dice rolling, resource management, and historical events into a tense experience. Players must work together to prepare their conspiracy, manage their Suspicion, and find the right moment to act. The movement of Hitler and his deputies, changing events, and possibility of arrest keep everyone on their toes.
