"Hope Unfolding: Grace-Filled Truth For The Momma's Heart" Book Review

I really enjoyed "Hope Unfolding," by Becky Thompson.  At first I wasn't so sure I would.  The first chapter was all about how she met and married her husband.  And, although it was interesting, the story seemed to drag a little.  But after that, the book just got better.

If you're looking for a "how-to" parenting book or a "Bible devotional" book, this isn't it.  This is simply honest, heartfelt encouragement for mommas - from Becky's heart to yours.  With each chapter, Becky uses a story (or multiple stories) from her own life to discuss some of the areas where mommas get discouraged.  Feeling forgotten? Feeling frustrated with current season of life? Feeling alone? Or like a bad momma?  Becky has too.  And she uses the lessons God has taught her through these difficult times to help hope "unfold" in our hearts.

I was very touched by some of the personal experiences she chose to share.  The story of her first pregnancy - that ended in miscarriage - was heartbreaking and encouraging, all at the same time.  The story of her first momma "freak out" (when her baby had a blister on his toe) made me laugh out loud and reminded me of some of my first days as a new mom!

Each chapter is meant to point you back to hope - true Hope - the hope that is Jesus Christ.  Becky said it best:
"Friend, there is hope after miscarriage. There is hope after death. There is hope after devastation. There is hope when the prayer isn't answered. There is hope when the bills aren't paid and the baby is hungry. There is hope when your husband leaves and says he's done. There is hope during cancer. There is hope when the war is raging. Because there is hope in Christ alone, and He is with us through it all."

I received a digital copy of this book, free of charge, from Blogging For Books, in exchange for my honest review.
