Applejack Game Review

Are you a fan of delicious flavor? Do you love nice, crisp apples? Do you like the idea of growing your own food?  Are you interested in agriculture? Then a game about apple orchards may be just the thing for you!  Join me and learn all about becoming the best apple farmer around!

Applejack, from Stronghold Games, is a wonderful tile-laying game for 1 to 4 players, ages 8 and up. It plays in 30 to 60 minutes. In Applejack, you'll be buying apple tiles and laying them in your orchard in an effort to harvest more and more delicious apples.

Here's what I love about the game:

1.) The educational aspects! - I love the idea of a game about apple harvesting! This is a great way to discuss botany, agriculture, and food science. There are tons of educational discussions that can come out of this game.  How do apples grow? Where do they grow? What do they need to grow? What sort of business knowledge, math, and science do you need to be an apple farmer? There are tons of things you can discuss while playing this game!

2.) The inclusion of bees in the game! - I absolutely LOVE that Uwe Rosenberg - the game's creator, included bees and honey in his game!  I'd never given much thought to the importance of bees in apple production before, but honeybees are an essential member of an apple orchard. I found this fabulous online article about honeybees and apple orchards and I learned so much!  For example, did you know that 90% of US apple crops are pollinated by bees? Bees are absolutely VITAL to apple crops! The inclusion of the honey in the game leads to another AMAZING educational opportunity - to discuss the importance of honeybees and how pollination works!

3.) The tile laying! - I admit, I'm a sucker for a tile laying game! And although this one is simple enough for an 8-year-old to play, it definitely includes a lot of thought and planning. This makes it a great game for both children AND adults!

4.) The design - those apples just look so yummy!  I love that they included different colors/types of apples.  All of the apples in the game aren't red. And the whole vibe of this game is calming and refreshing too.

If you like apples, or honey, or pollination, or tile laying, or Uwe Rosenberg games, then this game may be just the game for you!

I received this game, free of charge from Stronghold Games, in exchange for my honest review.
